Today is just social commentary.

I'm a slug. I've been sitting in bed all morning. Originally, I was scheduled to drive to New Mexico today to work but my schedule got changed and I won't be leaving until Sunday. So, here I am being a complete potato. I know I should go for a walk. I know I should work in the garden. I know there are a dozen other things I should be doing and yet I'm in that funny retrospective place that tends to keep me sitting with my heating pad and musing about life.

I'm fortunate I have this luxury, actually. I know many, many people do not. So, I'll finish out my day of sloth and prepare myself mentally to "git after it" tomorrow. In the meantime, I stuck my head out the front door and took this photo of some pine cones I have sitting in a pot on my front porch. What can I say: I have a thing about pine cones. They're amazing plant structures.

Yes, it is a proud moment. That's me with a grape in my nostril and my hair clip between my teeth. Pretty, no? Thank goodness I shaved my armpit (I think).

I know I should be taking my own photos but so often the photos that others send to me become representative of my day. Like this one. It's a photo of the changing leaves in the aspen in my parents' front yard. I think it is absolutely beautiful. Beauty signaling the end of long days of sunlight and ushering the long days of darkness.

Well, we don't really get that so much here in Phoenix. But there is still that part of me that relishes the darkness that is soon to be sprinkled with holiday lights and cheer. Autumn is my favorite season (with Spring running a close second), and I think it's because it is like a door. It closes Summer behind us and opens towards family gatherings and good tidings in front of us.

A rude awakening! I don't know if you can really read this (actually, if you click on the image it will get larger), but as I was running analysis on the XRF at work, today, I thought I'd pop in and see what Desert Songbird was up to, and This is what I got! Just since Yesterday the company for whom we subcontract blocked Blogspot!

Had a great drive home today. Unrushed, pretty scenery, not terribly stressful. At an overlook on highway 78, peering down the valley towards Safford, Arizona, I snapped this pic of the guardrail. Without going into a rant, this rather sums up how I feel. I love America; however, I do not love our current "leader of the free world." You don't have to agree with me, and rest assured that no matter how I feel, I would not deface a guardrail in such a manner. But there it was, and I had a camera...

Now, here is a clever bird! I'm thinking that wire is supposed to keep the birds away, but this bird had used it to advantage and constructed a very sturdy nest! I was getting a book out of my car when I heard singing, and when I looked up, this is what I saw. How totally cool!

Bonus photo: This is the top to one of my favorite pairs of pajamas (looooove pajamas!). It's Earl and Mooch from "Mutts." I LOVE Mutts! Mooch reminds me of my kitty, "Hey Cat," (who's since gone on to that Great Litter Box in the Sky). Hey Cat would eat that bird up there! I remember the time he came in and threw up a scorpion on the carpet. Sniff sniff. I miss him!

The sign that hangs above the door leading to the room in which we prep samples and run the XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) analysis. It was kind of a slow day and VERY windy and then it RAINED. I was not inspired. I had a headache. One of these might be nice on the bathroom door at home, though...

Not a real great photo, but this is the mort camera which I have dissected in the name of science. I took the photo with my digital camcorder which also takes stills. I think I need some practice.

On one of my previous trips home from Silver City, I stopped at the "Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch" and bought an egg for Steve for Easter. Today, it caught my eye and I thought it would make an interesting photo.

Below is the Ostrich egg, a regular Large Grade AA chicken egg, and an egg of indeterminate origin (although I think it might be mockingbird), that I found blown down in my yard one day. All I can think when I look at that Ostrich egg is, "Ouch!" Statistics below ~

The Ostrich egg shell is the largest and thickest shell in the world. A fertile egg weighs about 3.5 pounds and takes 6 weeks to hatch. There is one giant yolk inside that is approximately equal to 24 chicken eggs (yolks). The egg shell that I have is from an infertile egg. The egg was drained through a precision hole in one end and the shell was then cleaned with a disinfecting solution.

O.K., I didn't actually TAKE a photograph for today; however, I did CREATE a picture.

I was recently sent a copy of our office and satellites organizational chart. As a part-time employee, I am on the BOTTOM even though I am professionally a higher level than many of the full-time employees. Here's my version of our Org Chart. Enjoy!

Now is the time of year when all those seasonal Easter goodies start to arrive at a market near you! I am weak! I am pathetic! I think the little pink ones taste the BEST!

Another slow day at the HIE. Still feeling sluggish and droopy and since I've been in my room all day, there is not much to take a photo of that you haven't already seen. With that said, my photographic phriends (like that?), I bring you "Guest Preferred." Yes, it's toilet paper. Seriously, have any of you ever been questioned regarding your toilet paper of choice by any of the hotels at which you have stayed? How do they know that the guests prefer this one? Actually, it kind of unravels and is a bit scratchy (although it does have an attractive wrapper).

A completely uneventful Saturday here in NM. (Only one week to go and I'll be back in the Valley of the Sun.) I ended up taking a four hour nap this afternoon, after a morning of fun stuff like doing my time sheet and working on my expense report and folding my laundry - yoo hoo!

I love socks! So comfy and fun! Always the Perfect gift! No, I don't have any idea how many pairs I own, but here are some that I brought with me.
